The HAUTE ROUTE – most famous Ski touring traverse of the World

Who has never heard about Haute Roue? For Ski mountaineers this is the holy grail of all traverses. Mind blowing landscapes, cozy mountain huts, epic runs and famous peaks … (Ski) mountaineering was founded in this region between Svitzerland and France, become a part of it!

What’s to be expected:

  • Day 1: We meet in Herbriggen, Mattertal. Transfer to Argentiere and lift up to Grand Montets. Short ski descent and approach to Argentiere Hut. (up 200 m, down 600 m, ca. 3 hrs.)
  • Day 2: Three passes, Col du Chardonnet, Fenetre du Saleina and Col des Escandies to Champex. Spectaclar day with big ski descents. By taxi to Bourg St. Pierre. (Up 1400 m, Down 2300 m, ca. 7 Hrs.)
  • Day 3: Climb through Valseroy to Valseroy Hut (Up 1400 m, ca. 6 Hrs.)
  • Day 4: Via Plateau du Couloir we reach Col du Sonadon, either by skis or crampons, depending on conditions. Descent via Glacier du Chanrion to Chanrion Hut. (Up 1000 m, Down 1600 m, ca. 6 Hrs.)
  • Day 5: Ascent fia Brenay Gletscher to Pigne de Arolla followed by a gread descent to the beautiful situated Vignettes hut. (Up 1400 m, Down 700 m, ca. 7 Hrs.)
  • Day 6: Last step and Grand Finale on the way back to Zermatt. Again three passes, Col de l’Eveque, Col du Brule and Col de Valpelline. In great vicinity of Matterhorn we end with a super long descent and finish the trip with cheese fondue and good glass of wine in Zermatt. (Up 900 m, Down 2500 m, ca. 7 Hrs.)
  • Day 7: Travel day.

4 full days of individual skitouring guiding by a certified IFMGA Mountain Guide and Level-4 Ski Instructor, Rental of harness and crampons, Rental of beacon/transceiver and probe, Amazing days out in the backcountry, booking of huts and taxis, trip organization

Conditions:

  • you have to be able to ski black groomer runs with confidence
  • ski touring experience is necessary
  • physical fitness to do 400 vertical meters per hour (ascent) necessary
  • physical fitness to climb up to 5 hours per day and 1600 vertical meters necessary
  • you have to be able to do switchbacks
  • experience with crampons and ice axe appreciated
